Appliques

Appliqués are the fastest way to change how a dress reads. A single beaded or sequin piece on a neckline, shoulder or waist changes the whole silhouette without rebuilding the garment, which is why bridal designers and dressmakers keep a drawer of them.

Everything here is made with the same crystal and pearl components we use in production: K9 optical crystal glass, glass beads, sequins and stiffened tulle in the 3D styles. Pieces are hand-finished, so the beading sits flat against a bodice instead of curling at the edges.

Choosing by position on the dress
Neckline and shoulder pieces — light to medium weight, so the fabric is not pulled out of shape. Look for pieces under roughly 30 cm across; the vintage shoulder appliqué with fringe shows the scale that works on a sweetheart neckline.
Bodice and back pieces — heavier beading is fine here because the weight is carried by the body of the gown.
Sleeve and cuff pieces — cut to follow a curve rather than a straight edge. The beaded 3D floral sleeve appliqué is shaped for a shoulder-to-elbow line.
Skirt and hem accents — keep the piece lighter than the bodice so the hem still falls cleanly.

Choosing by construction
Beaded and pearl — texture first, sparkle second. The 3D beaded floral appliqué with crystal and pearl mixes both without competing.
Sequin and lace — reads as fabric before it reads as embellishment. The large floral lace appliqué and the 3D embroidered floral lace appliqué both sit close to the surface.
3D and layered — built on tulle with real depth. Use the 3D floral beaded tulle appliqué when the piece itself should be the feature, and the beaded sequin lace appliqué when the shape has to follow a cheongsam or qipao panel.

How to attach one
Hand-stitch with a matching thread, using small tacking stitches around the outline rather than through the beading. Fabric glue holds on pieces that will not be laundered often. Do not press an appliqué with an iron: heat dulls sequins and softens adhesive. If you want an iron-on route, build the shape with hotfix rhinestones instead, and finish the edge with a piece from crystal trims or the sew-on range when the piece has to survive repeated washing.

Two questions we get most
Can I cut an appliqué to shape? Only across the tulle margin. Cutting into a beaded edge releases the thread that holds the row together.
Will it match the fabric I already bought? Send a photo of the dress and the fabric swatch; we will point you at two or three pieces that work with that weight and tone.

If you are combining an appliqué with loose stones, our rhinestone size guide covers which SS sizes sit well next to beaded edges, and the price guide explains how to budget a full design.
